Wolves boss Mick McCarthy wants to strengthen a defence that has conceded 32 goals in 18 Barclays Premier League games this season, leaving the side rooted to the bottom of the table.
Gerard Houllier has told Davies he can leave Villa Park for the right price in January after failing to hold down a regular first-team place since a £9million move from West Bromwich Albion in 2008.
Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers have also enquired about the former England Under 21 international.
