Today, Gary Cahill joined Bolton for £4.5 million and Olof Mellberg signed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus. An exodus at Villa Park seemed likely with rumours circulating and it has now started.
With Luke Moore and Patrick Berger also likely to leave, fans will be wondering just when players will be coming in.
The squad is already down to the bare bones and if no signings are made; a European challenge looks unlikely.
But, Martin O'Neill acted late last season and he it's probable that he will mirror that this year. Randy's dollars are burning a hole in his pocket and fans will demand some new signings.
Cahill is a bright defender, but has been overlooked since the loan signing of Curtis Davies and the capture of Zat Knight from Fulham.
He was impressive at Sheffield United earlier in the season leading to a lot of Premiership interest. But it is Bolton that have won the race and they have acquired a promising talent. Good Luck Gary!
Olof is off in the summer. This was an inevitability and fans will wish him well as he looks to further his career with a new challenge. Who knows we could even be facing him in Europe next year. He has already stated his desire to see us hit the top six and no-one can fault his passion for the Villa. Good Luck to the legend!
