Villa outcast Nigel Reo-Coker could be set to leave the club in January with Fulham offering him an escape route.
The former West Ham midfielder was recently the subject of a training ground bust-up during which he apparently grappled with manager Martin O'Neill.
Although reports of a physical battle were denied, O'Neill admitted there had been a heated exchange of words and Reo-Coker was swiftly dropped for the visit of Portsmouth two days later.
Villa went on to win that encounter with ease but they found it far more difficult last weekend as Blackburn claimed a win at Ewood Park, despite being reduced to ten men for the final 20 minutes.
Reo-Coker was left on the bench throughout that game and his frustration will only have increased after seeing his side struggle in the central midfield department.
But Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is now ready to end the exile of the former England under-21 captain, with a £3m bid in January.
Hodgson added some tenacity on the wings in the summer with the acquisition of Damien Duff and the loan capture of Jonathan Greening but he now hopes to add some power in the middle.
Reo-Coker certainly fits the bill in that department and many Villans would undoubtedly be disillusioned should he leave the club.
The tough-tackling lynchpin was simply sensational in a five man midfield as Villa won superbly at Anfield in August and he has definitely proved himself in his favoured central role.
However, O'Neill often played him out of position last season and failed to bring the best out a player who has the ability to be a top drawer Premier League player.
If Reo-Coker is allowed to go to Fulham or somewhere else when the transfer re-opens then it could leave a massive void in the midfield, similar to the one seen at Ewood last Saturday.
