Sidwell set to sign

Steve Sidwell is set to become Villa's first summer signing.
The midfield dynamo who is out of favour at
Chelsea should sign early next week.
Villa have struck a deal worth around £5.5m with the Blues and the player is likely to fancy a move that will give him first team football.
Unfortunately for fans of the Claret and Blue, the signing of Sidwell will signal the departure of captain Gareth Barry.
Although
Liverpool have failed to meet Villa's asking price so far, they are expected to step up their efforts imminently.
Xabi Alonso is set for a move to Juventus and the funds from his sale will be used to finance the Barry deal.
The good news for Villa fans is that the club seem to have finally learnt their lesson as they are signing before selling.
In the past it has been a case of buying players at the last minute or not at all after watching players walk through the exit doors at
Villa Park.
The signing of Sidwell is likely to be of little consolation if in fact Barry does leave, but he is a useful player who can do a job for the team.
He earned a great reputation at
Reading and the former Arsenal trainee is clearly of high pedigree.
But, Villa must continue to build and not simply replace departing players.
Sidwell must be step one of a plan that can see Villa cement a top six place at worst.
More signings should follow and players with international experience are a must.
