Villa have completed the signing of left-back Stephen Warnock from Blackburn for an undisclosed fee.
The value of the transfer is thought to be around £8m and the former Liverpool ace will now link up with his new teammates ahead of the clash with Fulham on Sunday.
Warnock, 27, was presented to the Villa faithful prior to the 2-1 win against Rapid Vienna on Thursday.
Unfortunately for the Englishman, he will not get to play in Europe for his new side after they were eliminated on the away goals rule but he has already stated his desire to help Villa break into the top four of the Premier League this season.
Nicky Shorey, who is currently the first choice left-back at the club, will now face a fight for his place and he is likely to be warming the bench in the coming weeks.
The signing of Warnock is not only bad news for Shorey but it appears to signal the end of Wilfred Bouma's career at Villa as he looks unlikely to return from a long-term ankle injury.
All fans will be hoping that is not the case but it seems Martin O'Neill is preparing his side for life without Bouma.
