John Carew could be fit in time to face Bolton on Saturday.
The big Norwegian striker suffered an injury just before half time in the 4-0 defeat at Manchester United but is making good progress.
It was feared that Carew would face two weeks on the sidelines but he is apparently set to be back in training by Thursday.
The striker who is Villa's leading scorer with nine goals has suffered numerous niggling injuries in the past.
Carew has at times struggled to get a consistent spell in the first team but has been a main-stay of late.
The Claret and Blue are struggling themselves at the moment and need everyone available to stop the season descending into obscurity.
The 'Hulk' as he is affectionately known will be hoping to spearhead a recovery beginning with the Trotters on Saturday.
One thing is for sure he will be required to match Bolton's typical physical approach.
Villa must make sure he is 100 per cent fit.
