Martin Laursen is in line for a return against Manchester United at Old Trafford on April 5.
The Danish defender was an inspiration for Villa throughout last season and during the first half of this campaign.
He was made captain at the start of the season after the Gareth Barry to Liverpool debacle and he inspired his troops to a number of crucial victories.
But, injury then struck, as it has done so often throughout his career and he has been out since Villa's derby with West Brom in January.
Prior to that game, Laursen had been missing for three weeks with a knee injury and it was acknowledged by staff at the club that his comeback had been rushed.
But, the commanding centre back is now on the mend again and he will be needed back at the heart of the defence as soon as possible especially after some shaky moments recently.
Zat Knight has filled in admirably for Laursen and it could just be Curtis Davies who fears for his place after a few poor shows of late.
