The Villa No. 1 has disappointed for David O’Leary’s side this season, leading to a recent admission from the Irish manager, but Denmark coach Morten Olsen is hoping he will be steadier tonight as his beleaguered side line up against the European champions in Piraeus.
Sørensen’s Villa teammate Martin Laursen is definitely out of the trip, while Udinese Calcio defender Per Krøldrup and ACF Fiorentina midfielder Martin Jørgensen are fitness doubts having just returned from lay-offs; and Club Atlético de Madrid winger Jesper Grønkjær is suspended. Denmark currently lie second in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group 2, but are already five points adrift of leaders Ukraine.
Elsewhere, there are a number of Villa players involved in friendlies. Steven Davis is in line to make his international debut when Northern Ireland face Canada at Windsor Park, while captain Olof Mellberg’s Swedish side line up against France in a mouth-watering encounter in Paris. Thomas Hitzlsperger, meanwhile, is likely to start from the substitute’s bench when Germany take on Argentina in Dusseldorf.
