It was at Ewood Park last season, where Villa fans started to believe that their side were destined for a place in the top four.
The Claret and Blue cruised to a superb 2-0 victory against Sam Allardyce's side and their tag as Champions League pretenders began to fade.
But, one game later, it was all change.
Villa suffered a shocking 3-1 defeat at Everton in the F.A. Cup, as they put in an unusually poor performance which lacked commitment and skill.
Some blamed the absence of the suspended Gareth Barry and with the midfielder was back for the league game at home to Chelsea a week later.
But, again Villa struggled to break down an opponent who seemed to have figured out their apparent top four challengers.
Fair enough, that was Chelsea - a good side which was injected with renewed vigour due to the inspirational late-season arrival of the majestic Guus Hiddink.
Run
But, after the Moscow debacle, Stoke arrived at Villa Park and all dreams of top European football coming to the Midlands almost officially ended with the Potters claiming a destructive late 2-2 draw.
It seemed that Villa had peaked against Blackburn and the only thing that followed was a downward spiral.
This time, Martin O'Neill's men take on Rovers on a similar run to the one which preceded last season's clash in the north-west.
The Claret and Blue have won their last six games in all competitions, including the last four in the league.
They will be counting on the form of Gabby Agbonlahor, who shone at Ewood last year and who has netted in his last four games.
And they will also be heavily reliant on strong performances from former Blackburn boys Brad Friedel and Stephen Warnock.
The Villans new and old will be looking for a similar victory to the one which was claimed last season but hoping that this time, it doesn't signal a collapse.
