Starlet Gary Gardner struck once again as Villa's academy saw off the challenge of Charlton.
Gardner, who was the hero six days ago as the Claret and Blue reserves defeated West Ham, curled a superb 25 yard effort into the home net to finish off the Addicks after team mate Durrell Berry had opened the scoring.
Austrian stopper Thomas Dau was also in fine form as he saved a penalty from Charlton with just a minute to go.
But, it is Gardner who is currently taking all the plaudits, as he continues his rapid progression towards a regular starting spot for the Villa second string.
He seems to have mastered the academy game and it may not be too long before he is training alongside his elder brother and first team midfielder Craig.
