An inspired performance by captain Robbie Blake saw Burnley easily demolish illustrious Premiership opposition in the form of Aston Villa.
Blake produced his first piece of magic after nine minutes and crossed for Graham Branch to head the Clarets in front.
The only time Blake let himself down was when he saw his second-half penalty saved by Thomas Sorensen, after Jlloyd Samuel felled Richard Duffy.
However, Blake soon put this mistake behind him as he linked up with Tony Grant to work a corner routine, which saw Mo Camara glance the ball into the top corner to extend Burnley's lead after 65 minutes.
Villa's only attempt on goal came nine minutes from full-time when substitute Luke Moore crossed to Juan-Pablo Angel to head past Danny Coyne and give Villa some hope.
However, Blake had other ideas and five minutes later combined with Micah Hyde to enable Jean-Louis Valois to finish the scoring with his first goal for the Clarets.
The success was no more than Burnley deserved after dominating proceedings against a poor Villa side.
