Davies dealt blow as Bendtner makes Villa blue

Villa's visit to the Emirates has left a bitter taste as the Claret and Blue suffered an injury blow to Curtis Davies and lost out on a vital three points.
The away side would not have expected to claim a first victory against Arsenal since 1998 but they were only denied a famous win by former Blues boy Nicklas Bendtner. The Dane struck with virtually the last kick of the game to leave the travelling fans stunned.
Philippe Senderos had earlier given Villa the lead with an own goal after Ashley Young put in a low cross.
Unfortunately, Martin O'Neill was forced into two substitutions after Curtis Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker both sustained injuries. The pair have been particularly influential for the Claret and Blue this season; helping them into a top six position.
Marlon Harewood was again given a brief cameo as he looked to enhance his supersub image. However, it was Bendtner who claimed that tag for the afternoon and he will have enjoyed the moment against a team who used to be his rivals when he was at Blues.
All in all it was a bitter sweet afternoon for Villa as the side once again showed just how good they can be on the road. There is a resilience instilled and although they failed to hold out this time, the confidence will be flowing. The boys now know they can match anyone, but they will have to match them without Davies who may not play again this season.
