Woe for Wilfred

Villa's victory over Odense BK paled into insignificance after an horrific injury sustained by defender Wilfred Bouma.
The Dutch left back suffered a dislocated ankle which left the whole of Villa Park shocked.
Many fans looked on in distress as they witnessed what was appeared to be a broken leg cause anguish for Bouma.
Villa strikers John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor added to anxiety as they rounded on the Netherlands international.
Both put their hands to their heads as the seriousness of the injury dawned on them.
Villa, without a naturalised left back on the bench, brought on headline making midfielder Gareth Barry.
And the England star received a rapturous welcome which drowned out the boos of the discontented few.

Pearler

Barry went on to play a big part in the 1-0 win and Villa now progress into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.
Ashley Young scored a fine second half winner to give the Claret and Blue a vital victory which saw them progress 3-2 on aggregate.
The wizard-like winger struck an absolute pearler after cutting in from the left to ease the nerves of the Villa faithful.
Odense rarely threatened to spring a surprise, but Senegalese striker Baye Fall did go agonisingly close midway through the first half.
Fall strode clear of Villa defender Zat Knight only to see his delicate finish come back of the post.
Villa recovered, and a powerful display from Nigel Reo-Coker helped them overcome their Danish opponents.

Dominant

Steve Sidwell seemed to enjoy his first game at Villa Park but his fitness levels appeared to be low as he misfired on a number of occasions.
The game served to outline the importance of Gareth Barry as a Villa man as he looked dominant even at left back.
Barry often marauded forward to set up Villa attacks and fans will now be hoping that Liverpool have ended their interest in the midfield maestro.
Unfortunately, whether Barry stays at Villa Park or not he will not see Wilfred Bouma in training for some time.
All fans will wish the much improved defender well and hope for a speedy recovery.
